Live Edge Dining Table

P1010763

Our beautiful and functional dining table is made from a carefully salvaged old maple tree that was deemed dangerous and needed to come down.  The table was hand made by the talented folks at Live Edge Design in Duncan and is a good example of local art and sustainability in practice. The tide pool contains local stones collected from the nearby beaches and features some fun ceramic starfish from our Artworks collection.  See more about the story of our table.

Wooden Map

P1010755.JPG

This intricate wood cut map is worth close inspection.  It shows the treacherous channels around Vancouver Island, so long thought to be impassable in anything larger than a canoe.  Created by Robbie and Kara Johnson, the husband and wife duo behind Below The Boat, from their home in Snohomish, WA.

Solo

Artist Nathalie Parenteau

Born in Montréal, Québec, Nathalie has a bachelor of sciences in biology at the University of Western Ontario. She now lives in Whitehorse, Yukon. Her keen sense for melodrama has found the perfect outlet in this work. After viewing a painting, people often remark to feeling destabilized, of being pulled out of the known world and being put face to face with a new reality. Nathalie’s style is easily recognizable and she is known for her sensitive representation of the subject in its environment.

The gorgeous little lifelike starfish featured in our lamp are the creation of Elaine Bhom of Ponderosa Designs based in Parksville.  The exact replicas of sea stars are produced by using an original starfish to create the mould from which life size ceramic sea stars are made, glazed and kiln fired.
