Port Renfrew has cell phone coverage by a limited number of providers

Please be aware that until recently Port Renfrew had NO cell coverage. There is currently cell coverage for Rogers customers and some others. Please check with your provider. If unavailable for your package, guests might want to set up wifi calling before arriving. Please note that if you are not covered then there will likely be no coverage for up to an hour outside of Port Renfrew with the service fading out around Lake Cowichan or Sooke. Guests are strongly advised to ensure they have all necessary information for finding and accessing the property before setting out on their journey.

Port Renfrew

Port Renfrew is a very special place with lots of beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. Eagle Reach is perfectly located to be a base for your outdoor adventures. The local beaches and forest hikes are particular treats and you can take a fishing charter out into the Pacific waters. Surfing is available on several nearby beaches and you can watch the weather roll by from the comfort of the balcony or living room. Local restaurants and The Renfrew Pub offer a range of dining options. Overlooking the ocean and mountains, our home gives easy access to wonderful beaches and spectacular old growth forests. This friendly area is a treat for nature lovers and is the perfect place for exciting activities or deep relaxation. Port Renfrew is small and everything is accessible by walking or bicycling or there is plenty of parking available if you’d prefer to drive.

Guests will see that the area is developing rapidly. There is now a gas station in town, the General Store is expanding its stock all the time, and there are more options than previously for eating out. The power sometimes goes out for short periods. If it does, we have flashlights and emergency lights and a gas barbecue on the balcony.

Directions

Our home can be found on Google Maps pinned as “Eagle Reach – West Coast Cottages”. Port Renfrew can be accessed from Victoria along Highway 14. Please note that the last opportunity for groceries and cell coverage is at Sooke and the journey from there takes just over an hour. An alternative route is from Duncan on the Island Highway and through Lake Cowichan which is the last stop for cell and groceries on that route. The journey takes around an hour and a half from Duncan. When arriving in Port Renfrew, Parkinson Road takes you past the General Store and the Garbage Disposal on the left hand side and the Pacific Gateway Marina on the right hand side. The turning for Baird Road is just past Tomi’s Restaurant on the right. Follow the road straight up and turn left into the development. Our home is overlooking the inlet.

Smart lock

The door is locked with a keypad. We will forward the new door code before your stay. Please note that in damp weather sometimes the door will stick. Please make sure it is pushed in so that the lock can release.

Pets Allowed

We welcome well-behaved dogs but please respect our neighbours and clean up after your pet.

Please use pet bowls for dog food and water and feed them on the floor.

Barbecue

There is a large Weber barbecue on the balcony. The propane gas tank hangs underneath. When the tank is empty it can be refilled at the Pacheedhat Gas Station. Please send a picture of the receipt to heather@eaglereach.ca and we will interac the money to you.

Garbage

Please use the various garbage bins located in the property. Please note that all recyclables and garbage are collected and processed separately, there is currently no service for compostable materials in Port Renfrew so this can just be put in the main garbage bin. Our cleaners will collect garbage after your stay but if you need to drop off garbage before that, please use the facility located just ahead of the General Store. Please note the opening hours for that facility and deposit garbage in the appropriate bins. Please do not leave garbage (even in bags) on the porch or balcony as it attracts wildlife.

Laundry

There are laundry machines and laundry detergent in the unit for guest use. The machines are “European size” LG units. Due to the small size they will only require a half measure of detergent. Please shake off mud and sand before putting items into the washing machine and empty out the lint filter in the dryer for optimum use.

Guests will realize that Port Renfrew is quite a sensitive ecological location. House linens (sheets, covers and towels) are cleaned by a professional laundry service out of town. These will be collected by our cleaner after your stay.

Dishwasher

There is a dishwasher with tablets and fluid available for guest use. On the last day of your stay, please fill and start the dishwasher, our cleaners will empty it after you have left.

Cleaning

Our cleaning is done for us by a professional cleaning company “Port Renfrew Cleaning”.

Bed linens are provided for each of the beds in the unit sufficient for our maximum occupancy. Towels and bathmats are provided for your use. Linens will be collected after your stay. All linens are professionally laundered off site – Port Renfrew has a very sensitive ecosystem that cannot cope with large quantities of laundry from all the units in the area so they are taken out of town.

Occasional Power Outages

Port Renfrew is a remote place and occasional power outages are possible. BC Hydro is very good at restoring power quickly so please be patient. In an emergency, light, heat and wi-fi can be accessed in The Renfrew Pub which has a generator.

COVID-19

Our cleaning staff are doing all they can to ensure everyone’s safety at this time. All linens are laundered after each visit and hard surfaces are all disinfected. Staff are complying with BC guidelines.
