Please take care of our table.  It is durable but please use trivets, mats and coasters.  No hot pans or food, especially steamy things like pizza boxes.  Clean only with a soft damp cloth, no chemical products.

Our beautiful and functional dining table is a good example of local art and sustainability in practice.

The table is made from a carefully salvaged Big Leaf Maple, which are legendary for their fine furniture qualities.  Our tree comes from Koksilah, a beautiful, rural area just outside of the town of Duncan.  The tree was an old maple that was deemed dangerous and needed to come down.  It was reworked and hand crafted by the talented folks at Live Edge Design in Duncan.  See the documentary below:

Live Edge Design use a ‘whole tree approach’ using as much as possible from the trees that are reclaimed to utilize every inch of the tree for its highest end use.  The trees are not only used to make beautiful, multigenerational art furniture but also musical instruments, carvings and sculptural art.  One tree can provide 1000 hours of skilled labour and by harvesting 100 trees per year Live Edge Design can provide local jobs to 22 workers.

After the tree is felled the wood is seasoned for at least a year, stacked in slabs at the facility in Duncan.

The larger sections are reserved for large pieces of furniture but the smaller cuts are used for pieces including chairs.

The slabs were selected for our table with an expert choice made by the designer to meet our requirements.

A design is drawn based on the particular slabs chosen.

Design for our table

Wooden hoop table legs complete the look.

After approval of the design our table goes into production.  Our woodworker, Ari, lays out the slabs.

Fitted together the live edges form a “tide pool” which in our table contains local stones and sea glass collected from the nearby beaches.

When completed, the table is delivered and assembled by Shar and Jake.
